An Introduction To Personality Testing For Entrepreneurs

If you’re interested in the psychology of success (and you should be if you’re an entrepreneur), you may have stumbled upon the work of Carl Jung, the Swiss psychologist.

Carl Jung

One of Carl Jung’s greatest contributions to modern day psychology is that human beings seem to fall into eight primary personality types.

Jung’s work on personality types went on to become the basic framework upon which most modern day personality typing systems are built.

You’re OK Just The Way You Are…

The greatest gift I received from Jung was the insight that I am not weird, strange or flawed – and neither is anyone else.

As a kid, I never felt that I fitted in. When I realized that most of my friends didn’t think like I did, I withdrew wondering if something was wrong with me.

When I took my first Jungian personality test, I was a little skeptical at first. I mean, what could a 10 minute multiple choice questionnaire tell me that I didn’t already know?

That test was a turning point in my life…

According to the test, I was not weird or even that different! As I read the description of my personality type, my whole life made sense to me.

“Oh! that’s why I do …” was a recurring thought in my head for weeks afterward.

My biggest take away was that my thinking style, speaking style, values, learning style and decision making style… are all TOTALLY natural for my particular personality type.

What a relief! I’m normal…

As I began my own journey as an entrepreneur, I realized that personality typing could be hugely valuable in my business…

Here’s where I got the most value (as an entrepreneur) from understanding personality typing:

Knowing my strengths and weaknesses

Realizing that I’m not weird, just different

Realizing that everyone else is not weird either, just different (this insight made me a much nicer person to be around)

Realizing that my weaknesses are another type’s strengths, so I don’t have to do everything myself

Realizing that particular jobs in my business are best suited to a particular personality type’s strengths

Realizing that I can give my employees the test to take and move them into positions that better suit their strengths

Realizing that I should ‘test’ the hell out of every potential employee BEFORE hiring them to make sure their personality type fits the job I need them to do.

ChaChing!

Can you hear the sound of money flowing into your business? This is what can happen when you ‘type’ yourself and your staff and then put yourself and your staff into job positions that utilize your natural talents and strengths!

When you apply some simple psychology of success using personality testing, your entire business will naturally produce more value. The spin-off of producing more value in business is attracting more customers and earning more money (for you, your investors and the tax man ).

What I’ve Learned From Taking Multiple Personality Tests.

There are at least 50 different personality tests that I know of. I’ve taken many of them in my quest to understand myself better.

Some were useful, but most were only insightful.

The most useful one for me as an entrepreneur was Wealth Dynamics (no surprise here) because it was the only personality test that actually offered me action steps for my particular type.

The 8 Wealth Dynamics Profiles

Most of the others only described my strengths and weaknesses, which is insightful, but not necessarily useful.

Roger James Hamilton (the guy who created Wealth Dynamics system) took his passion for entrepreneurship and his understanding of Jungian personality types and identified 8 entrepreneur personality types.

In my opinion, Roger’s big breakthrough was that each of the 8 personality types has it’s own unique wealth creation strategy that feels fun and natural for that type of person.

In summary, there’s a lot you can learn about yourself and your staff from giving them personality tests.

WARNING: Be careful not to box people once you know their personality type. Types represent preferences, not fixed ways of being.

Go forth and know thyself. Then get to know others. You (and your bank balance) will be glad you did.

Are you an introverted or an extroverted entrepreneur?

The answer to this question will seriously influence whether wealth showers you with its riches, or your wealth dries up like an empty well in a desert.

Scientists and philosophers alike have told us that the Universe is dualistic. In plain English, this means that there are two sides to every coin e.g. Positive and Negative, Day and Night, Up and Down, Fast and Slow.

Your personality type also has two sides, INTROVERTED and EXTROVERTED, and you will naturally be drawn more to one.

INTROVERT or EXTROVERT?

Introverts generally internalize and analyze their decision making, whereas Extroverts take their cues from the outside world, often consulting with others before they make up their mind.

Introverts like to keep things simple, whereas Extroverts tend to make things more complicated. Introverts are process oriented whereas Extroverts are people oriented. Are you beginning to recognize yourself in one of there?

Like day and night, neither wealth strategy is better than the other, just different.

If you are introverted, your wealth lies in the path of The Accumulator, The Lord or The Mechanic profiles. If you are extroverted, your wealth lies in the path of The Star, The Supporter or The Deal Maker profiles.
The Creator and Trader profiles can be either introvert or extrovert.

Richard Branson is very clearly an extroverted Creator profile. He creates businesses and promotes them with his extroverted personality. On the other hand, Bill Gates is very clearly an introverted Creator profile. He found his wealth through creating software and you definitely would not find him at a Hollywood movie premiere (where all the extroverts hang out)!

If you have seen Gates or Branson speak on TV, their personality types are glaringly obvious. Do a search for them on YouTube.com and watch some videos of their speeches to see for yourself.

How Do You Build Wealth?

Each personality type has a different wealth strategies for building wealth.

Introverts multiply and extroverts magnify.

Magnifying Value…

An extrovert will build their wealth through taking the value of their product, their service, their brand, their team or their deal and MAGNIFYING it i.e. they will make it bigger and better. Think of how Oprah (a STAR Profile) took her brand and make it a household name.

Although there is only one Oprah Winfrey, she has MAGNIFIED the value of her brand so much that it has not only made her famous, but also a cool $1.4 BILLION.

Multiplying Value…

An introvert will naturally build their wealth through taking the value of their products or services or investments and MULTIPLYING them.

Think of how Ray Kroc (a MECHANIC Profile) took an awful hamburger (in my opinion!) and franchised it around the globe. He MULTIPLIED the hamburger through his McDonalds franchises. Because a hamburger is unlikely to increase much in value, Ray began a production line and instead of trying to MAGNIFY the value of his hamburgers, he MULTIPLIED them and this led him naturally and effortlessly to his wealth.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

OK, so I know this has been quite a technical lesson and if you haven’t quite yet grasped what I’m on about, that’s OK. It took me a while to really understand how the different profiles work together.

Your introversion/extroversion preference hugely influences your your Wealth Profile and natural wealth strategy. If you’re still struggling to succeed as an entrepreneur, you’re almost certainly not working with your Wealth Profile. Take the Wealth Dynamics test to discover what type you are.

If you don't know the million dollar difference between money and wealth, you'll always struggle to have any. Read on to find out...

One of the most common mistakes I see entrepreneurs making is that they are trying to make money instead of focusing on building wealth.

If you don’t know the million dollar difference between money and wealth, you’ll struggle to have either of them…

One of the most common mistakes I see entrepreneurs making is that they are trying to make money instead of focusing on creating wealth.

As I see it, there are TWO fundamental problems with trying to make money:

Money itself has no inherent value and it does not actually exist AND

Your brain struggles to visualize concepts like ‘money’

Lets delve a little deeper into these two problems…

PROBLEM #1: Money Has No Value And Does Not Exist

Money is a man made concept that we all use to measure value, but does not have any value itself. These days it’s even more intangible because money doesn’t even exist in reality – it only exists as numbers sitting in some computer system somewhere.

So trying to make money is as fruitless an activity as trying to see air. You can see the results of air moving as the trees sway in the breeze, but you can’t see the actual air itself.

By the same token, you can see the results of money flowing through our economy, but you can’t see the actual money itself because it is just a concept. You could argue that the paper notes in your wallet are money, but I assure you that they are not. They are just paper notes that have no value outside your economy.

If you don’t believe me, try taking 500 million Zimbabwean Dollars into your local grocery store and buy a loaf of bread with them. Your grocery store is going to laugh at you, right?

Why? Because your 500 million bucks has no inherent value of its own. You may as well use them to light a fire in your living room on a cold, rainy night.

So, that is problem number 1. On to problem number 2…

PROBLEM #2: Your Brain Struggles To Visualize Concepts Like ‘Money’

There’s a saying in NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming – the study of how the mind works) that human beings never do anything that they have not first seen themselves do in their imagination.

What this means is that we always imagine doing something in our mind before we actually do it. This is why VISUALIZATION is such a useful tool. When you visualize something, you are far more likely to achieve it.

The problem is that you brain cannot visualize money because money is not a thing – it’s a concept.

You can visualize having some paper in your wallet (what you and I call money), but that just attracts having more paper in your wallet – not more wealth.

Am I making sense here? Are some light bulbs flashing in your head? I hope so.

My point is: Trying to make money is never going to make you rich.

Unfortunately, if you’ve been learning about the Law Of Attraction from the hit movie, The Secret, they’ll tell you to focus on money. Good luck with that…

So how can you attract more money into your life?

The Real Difference Between Money And Wealth

My favorite definition of Wealth comes from Roger James Hamilton, the creator of Wealth Dynamics: “Wealth is what you have left when you’ve lost all your money”

What he means is that your wealth consists of the things like your passions, your network, your track record, your access to resources and your knowledge of your industry.

Whereas money is intangible, wealth is tangible. Whereas money is impermanent, wealth is permanent.

If I were to hijack a wealthy person and dump them in a foreign land with no money, they’d soon be back on their feet again because although they might have had their money taken from them, they never lost their wealth.

You often read about wealthy people who lose all their money and then make it back again. This is because they never lost their wealth.

By contrast, somebody who has no wealth, but a lot of money, will soon find ways to lose their money.

Lottery winners are a great example of this phenomenon. The US lottery statistics show that within only TWO years, 50% of all lottery winners are worse off than before they won the lottery!

This is becasue although they have money, they are not wealthy, so their money goes away quickly.

This revelation was HUGE for me.

One Last Very Important Distinction…

Money is attracted to Wealth… it follows wealth, not the other way around.

If you shift your focus from making money to creating wealth, you’ll begin to see the world in a new light where opportunities to create wealth that attracts money are illuminated all around you.

The easiest way to find out how you can build wealth easily and naturally is to take your Wealth Dynamics Profile test.

Without knowing your Wealth Profile, you really are flying blind and leaving your success to chance.

20,000 entrepreneurs have already taken their test and have discovered their most natural path to wealth. If you also want to build your wealth and say goodbye to money struggles, I highly recommend that you do too:

Take the test

Talk soon,

P.S. When you take your Wealth Dynamics test, you’re going to get a whole bunch of killer bonuses too.

P.P.S. I’d appreciate your thoughts on this conversation. Please leave me a comment below.

BEWARE: If you’re a card carrying Law Of Attraction fan, then this article is going to shock and annoy you...

I’ve had enough!

I’ve had it up to my eyeballs with all the CRAP written on the internet about how to attract money using the Law Of Attraction.

Not because I don’t think it’s possible to attract opportunities to make money, but because most of the information is just plain USELESS! By useless, I mean that it is not actionable and you can’t do anything with it.

I searched Google for “attract wealth” and here are some of the gems I found:

“Step into the flow of the Universe and ask for money help…”

At first glance, this looks like an innocent enough premise, but when we dig a little deeper you’ll discover that statements like this often leave us more confused that before we read them.

Check this out… Could you please tell me exactly WHERE I find this universal flow. Once I’ve found it, HOW do I step into it and HOW do I ask for money help?

Do I go looking for a universal river at full moon and then bathe in it? Do I howl into the night sky “I need money help!” and hope the Universe is listening to me?

See what I mean? This is not actionable advice, so in my mind, it’s totally useless. Unfortunately, many of the “new-age” or “spiritual” teachings that are popular today, are filled with this useless crap.

Here’s another:

“Learn to vibrate at the frequency of money…”

This one cracks me up…

I may not be the smartest guy on the planet, but could someone please tell me exactly how many Hertz (cycles per second) money vibrates at? I’d also love to know HOW to vibrate myself at that frequency, so I can attract some of this money too.

I decided to try vibrating at the frequency of money just to see if it worked…

In my gym, I have this cool fitness gadget called a Power Plate. You stand on it and it vibrates your body like a jack hammer. I kid you not. I stood on it this morning and set it to HIGH, hoping that it could vibrate me to the frequency of money…

Vibrating to attract money?

Unfortunately no money fell from the sky…

However, I did make a few sales from my website, but I doubt that was from vibrating for 5 minutes. Maybe if I can get Power Plate to add a MONEY switch in addition to the HIGH/LOW switch, I’ll be able to attract some more money.

Obviously, I’m just being facetious and having some fun, but there is a point to my banter:

There’s nothing wrong with wanting to attract money. The problem (as I see it) is that most of the people who talk about ‘attracting money’ come from a mindset of lack i.e. wanting to get something for nothing.

If you believe people who tell you that you can somehow magically ‘attract’ money by doing nothing other than ‘vibrating’ or ‘asking’, you’re never going to have any (or at least not for long).

Having a mindset that supports you taking action towards becoming financially free is essential, but that alone is never going to make you rich.

Go ask anyone on the Forbes Magazine “Rich List” how they created their wealth and they aren’t going to tell you that they sat around vibrating to the frequency of money.

So, how have wealthy people ATTRACTED their wealth?

Drum roll please…

The Only Way To Attract Wealth

The way that EVERY wealth creator in history has made their money is by providing or creating some kind of VALUE that people are willing to pay money for.

Read that sentence again, because it might be the most important sentence you read in your entire financial life.

If you provide lots of VALUE, you’ll easily attract OPPORTUNITIES to exchange it for MONEY.

NOTE: You can’t attract money itself (at least not from my experience), but you can attract opportunities (to exchange some form of value for money).

If you’re still focusing on attracting money, you’re probably broke. Focus on how you or your product or service can add value to others, and then watch the money flow in.

Here’s the equation:

GIVE NO VALUE = GET NO MONEY

GIVE VALUE = GET OPPORTUNITIES (TO EXCHANGE VALUE FOR MONEY)

Got it?

If making money is that simple, then why is it that most people don’t succeed in becoming wealthy?

I believe it’s because most people have NO IDEA what kind of value they should be adding, so they end up paralyzed by confusion (not knowing how to move forward) or beating the same old financial freedom drum over and over again doing the same thing (even if it is not working) until they give up or burn out… Sound familiar?

So what’s the Secret to creating wealth?

In my opinion, the secret to wealth creation is discovering your unique VALUE that you can add to the world, and then spreading that value in a way that is enjoyable for you.

If you’re like most people (including me a few years ago), then you probably have no clue where your unique VALUE lies or how to share it with the world, so you’re probably struggling to exchange your potential value for MONEY.

The Good News Is…

There is a way to determine what your unique VALUE is use it to create enormous amounts of wealth, without having to howl at the moon or figure out how to vibrate at the frequency of money.

If you’re interested in learning your unique value, then check out this wealth creation article.

While this article is somewhat tongue in cheek and I am guilty of laughing hysterically while writing it, the concept of exchanging VALUE for MONEY is at the heart of all successful wealth creators. Ignore it at your peril.

To debunking myths and enjoying life,

P.S. If you don’t know how to deliver your value to the world in a way that is natural for you, you’re pretty much screwed when it comes to creating wealth. It’s always going to feel like hard work and be exhausting. Make sure you click this link to learn how you can find out the EASIEST way for you to exchange your value for money. I’ve created a stunning surprise for you at the end of the page.

P.P.S. I’d love to hear your thoughts once you’ve found your unique value… Please leave me a comment below.

Last year, Roger James Hamilton (the creator of Wealth Dynamics) introduced me to a concept he calls ILR or the ‘Illusion of Limited Resource’.

We have all faced ILR from time to time, for example:

When we don’t have enough money to do what we want to do

When we don’t have the know how to make something happen

When we don’t have the time to do something

What most people do when faced with ILR is give up on their goal and return to their daily lives, citing their limitation as the reason they cannot live the kind of life they want to live.

All of your so called ‘limitations’ are actually ILLUSIONS.

“I’ve got kids to think of!” = Illusion of Limited TIME or MOBILITY

“I can’t afford it!” = Illusion of Limited MONEY

“I don’t know how!” = Illusion of Limited KNOWLEDGE or SKILL

People who use this kind of language don’t accomplish much. They don’t get to experience the excitement, adventure and joy of living a wealthy life because they don’t allow themselves to overcome their Illusion Of Limited Resource.

The Secret To Overcoming ILR

To overcome your illusion of limited resources, you need to stop asking HOW and begin asking WHO…

If YOU don’t have the MONEY, someone else does…

If you don’t have the TIME, someone else does…

If YOU don’t have the KNOWLEDGE, someone else does…

By leveraging the skills, knowledge, time and money of other people, you can all get the resources you need to achieve your financial goals.

If you don’t think you have the money to get these people to help you, that’s just another layer of your illusion (or delusion). Many bootstrapped startups get their employees to work for little money initially by giving them a profit share in the company.

If you have a burning desire, there are resources available to you if you begin to ask WHO.

How A Resourceful Singer Recorded Her Debut Album Without Any Capital Or A Record Deal…

One of my best friends, a singer, recently bumped into ILR when she discovered that it was going to cost her R300,000 ($40,000) to record her debut album.

Instead of giving up, she got creative…

She decided to sell her album before it had been recorded. She named the album “Yet To Be” and when you bought one, you received her demo CD with the promise that your album would be posted to you when she had recorded it.

As a ‘Future Owner’ of “Yet To Be”, you got to actually help create the album by choosing which songs made it onto the album and by helping choose the final album title. You also got your name listed in the artwork as being a contributor.

Pretty creative, don’t you think?

This amazing woman sold more than 2000 copies of an album that did not exist to people in 25 countries around the world. She then hired the best producer she could afford, recorded the album and released it…

So, who is this resourceful woman?

Her name is Verity, and I just interviewed her (see video below).

Visit VERITY and become a part of making music history at
www.IAmVerity.com

You too can be a part of music history by becoming a ‘Future Owner’ of her next album at www.IAmVerity.com.

So, next time you find yourself facing some kind of limitation, just know that it is an illusion and ask yourself, “Who does have the resource I need and how can I access that resource from them?”

Just asking yourself this question will force your mind to think in a totally new way and come up with a creative solution.

So, till next week, get CREATIVE.

I was having coffee the other night with an old friend, Ash. He said something that startled me. “Bruce, I know you teach about creating wealth, but I always have ENOUGH TO GET BY, so wealth doesn’t interest me.”

I resisted the urge to grab Ash by the shoulders and shake some sense into him. Instead, I replied, “Well, if you want to continue to just GET BY, then by all means, go ahead. But, if you want to live the ‘GOOD LIFE’ and really contribute to making the world a better place, you are going to need some money.”

I’m the first to teach that money can’t buy you happiness. However, it CAN buy you some pretty cool things, like freedom, resources and time.

Freedom and time are things that Ash values highly, so why did he say that creating wealth didn’t interest him?

Lies, Myths And Deceit

Many of us were brought up to believe that making money has to be hard work – that it requires sacrifice or being unscrupulous.

So if MONEY can’t buy you HAPPINESS and is going to require HARD WORK, SACRIFICE and possibly being UNSCRUPULOUS, then why would anyone waste their time trying to make money?

This is the BIG LIE that so many people LIKE Ash have bought into and it is this lie that is probably also keeping YOU financially stuck too.

Why?

Because if this lie is a part of your WEALTH BLUEPRINT (your unconscious beliefs around money), your unconscious mind, attempting to protect you, will not allow you anywhere near money for too long, before it creates a circumstance to make sure that you return to ‘just getting by’.

Making Money Doesn’t Have To Kill You

Over coffee, I began showing Ash how he could begin building his wealth by doing what he loves – teaching children. By the end of the TWO hour conversation, Ash could not contain his excitement and ran home to begin working on his business.

You see, when you learn to create WEALTH in a way that is most natural to you, it isn’t hard work. Yes, it may require a lot of time and commitment, but it’s not hard…

I Was Desperate…

When I first started Designer Life, I was like most entrepreneurs in that I loved my business, but it seemed to run me, rather than the other way round. I was the accountant, the sales person, the web designer, the delivery boy, the customer service agent etc.

When I discovered Roger James Hamilton’s Wealth Dynamics system, I was working 16 hour days, hating the job I once loved. Having taken the Wealth Dynamics test, I learned that I am a CREATOR profile and that my natural path to Wealth lies in my IDEAS.

I had reached the point of desperation. If something did not change, I was going to burn out. So, I listened to Roger’s advice and followed his SIX steps to wealth for the CREATOR profile and before long, I had built substantial WEALTH in my new business (and still am).

So what can you do?

Five Steps To Starting A Profitable Business That You Love

STEP 1: Find something that you love to do, that you are passionate about and that you can see yourself doing for the next few years at least.

STEP 2: Next, take your Wealth Dynamics profile test and discover your Wealth Profile (your natural path to wealth based on your personality type). Knowing your Wealth Profile will help you make wise choices later on and save you a LOT of wasted time and effort.

STEP 3: Brainstorm and come up with several ways you can add VALUE to others by doing what you love while following your Wealth Profile. Completing this step is CRITICAL if you want to take the ‘hard work’ out of creating wealth. The more value you add, the more success you will attract.

STEP 4: Follow the advice from your Wealth Dynamics Strategy Report to figure out who you need on your team.

STEP 5: Follow Roger’s SIX steps for your particular Wealth Profile and watch in awe as you attract wealth effortlessly to you.

If you have had enough of just getting by, implement the FIVE steps above and you’ll look back ONE year from now and give thanks for the success you have experienced.

If I can leave you with one thing, it’s this…

Just BEGIN whatever it is you want to do. For as long as you keep thinking about creating your wealth, you’ll never take any ACTION. Without taking ACTION, you won’t notice anything different in your finances ONE year from now.

So, as Goethe said. “Whatever you can do, or dream you can, begin it. Boldness has genius, power, and magic in it.”

Till next week, live like every minute counts, because it does.
